Thanksgiving Menu 2016

I apologize for the belatedness of this post. Hopefully, some of this feast will be helpful for others when organizing future (and upcoming!) holiday meal menus. I love documenting my Thanksgiving planning to help create a special meal the following year. 🙂

This was the year of the upside-down turkey! Per Martha Stewart’s suggestion, we roasted the turkey breast-side down for the first hour of cooking, and then flipped it over to brown the breast side. The thought behind this technique is that the juices during cooking seep into the white meat. The result was beautifully browned skin on the entire turkey and the juiciest turkey meat I’ve ever eaten. True. Really!

I purchased the turkey pre-brined (from Trader Joe’s) and we let it rest for a full hour before carving- factors which also possibly contributed to our successful result. It was a little scary lifting a 20 pound, 425 degree turkey- but my husband did a fabulous job. 🙂 Great!

My in-laws brought (and gave us <3) their beautiful wedding china and crystal. So, we dined elegantly in style! So much more fancy to eat the feast on formal plates. 🙂

I’ve posted our menu below and will fill in the links as soon as I am able. Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Happy Holidays!

Christmas Cookies 2015

Every year, I wait to start my Christmas baking until after I have completely finished shopping for gifts. and then… Every year, I feel as if I am running out of time and won’t be able to make it all happen. Well, I did sacrifice other things – going to the gym, cleaning my house… cooking dinner!?!? – but I did make my Christmas cookies! 🙂 I even added two new types: Speculaas and Raspberry-Hazelnut Macaroons (posts to follow).

Thank goodness, it always works out somehow! It would be hard to have Christmas without them. Happy Holidays to you!! ❤

Thanksgiving Menu 2015

My husband had to work for 24 hours on Thanksgiving Day this year, so we decided to celebrate the day before Thanksgiving. Although we missed him on Thanksgiving Thursday, the plus side for all of the rest of us was that we ate our Thanksgiving feast for TWO days in a row! (By the way, My husband ate a TON of food at work on Thanksgiving Day too…) The additional plus side for me was that I had one entire day to feast only “cooking” with a microwave for reheating. 😉 Yay!

I’ve posted our menu below and will fill in the links as soon as I am able. Happy Belated Thanksgiving! 🙂

Christmas Cookies 2014

My kids are at the perfect age to deliver Christmas cookies to our neighbors- and they LOVE doing it! Fun! 🙂 Unfortunately, my husband has to do the delivering to his co-workers. Some jobs in life are tough. 🙂

This year, I added spritz butter cookies and chewy ginger spiced molasses cookies to my assortment (posts to follow). The spritz cookies are my husband’s new favorite cookie, but meringues are still my kids’ favorite. I love them all! Happy Holidays!

Christmas Cookies 2013

IMG_6859

I love giving out – and baking- Christmas cookies. We share them with family, friends, neighbors, teachers, and co-workers. The whole family is involved in the distribution process! 🙂

I wish that I had time to bake more cookies!! I try to add one new cookie each year- this year my daughter chose gingerbread boys and girls. She loved them. 🙂 The only constants are Raspberry Meringue Kisses and Haystacks which are a family tradition dating back to my grandmother. They are my kids’ favorites!
